| Bridges to the Future Pennsylvania Credit Union Association's May 1 - 3, 2008 The Westin Convention Center Entertainment______________ Back by popular demand! Lou Christie’s chart-topping, multi-million selling career as a songwriter, recording artist, and performer started in a two-track studio in Glenwillard, his rural hometown near Pittsburgh. Christie’s first smash hit, The Gypsy Cried, transformed local choirboy Lugee Alfredo Giovanni Sacco into Lou Christie — national teen idol, while still a teenager himself. Christie forever embedded himself and his uniquely talented voice into America’s pop history with his 1966 multi-million selling Lightning Strikes, which remains a staple of classic rock stations even today. Christie continued his parade of hits with Rhapsody in the Rain, Painter, Outside the Gates of Heaven, Big Time and I’m Gonna Make You Mine, a 1968 smash hit. Christie was more than just your average teen idol. He was one of rock ’n’ roll’s first singer-songwriters. Highlights from Christie’s performing career include appearances on Dick Clark’s Caravan of Stars, sharing 72 consecutive one-nighters with Diana Ross and the Supremes, and a command performance for Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family. Christie has been noted as an influence by many other rock ’n’ roll artists including John Lennon and Madonna. Christie’s records are still selling today, and he recently released Pledging My Love, a collection of newly recorded songs. Christie is also a major contributor to the Rhino Records release, Grease Is the Word, a newly recorded version of the sound track from the motion picture Grease. Lightning struck in 1966, it’s striking again today, and if Lou Christie’s fans have anything to say about it, it’ll continue to strike for a long time to come.
